At summer’s end, The Washington Post reported that Upperville, Great Falls, and McLean had the highest average home sale prices in Northern Virginia.  With their supply of expansive estates and their close proximity to major metropolitan areas like DC and Baltimore, it’s no wonder real estate prices in these areas are soaring.  For those familiar to these locales, Upperville provides a quiet escape from city life and Great Falls and McLean are jewels of the District’s suburbs.

Yet, even in Great Falls and McLean, homeowners, prospective homebuyers, and visitors can find reprieve in the outdoors.  With kids back to school and a laundry list of seasonal home maintenance, home owners are busy this time of year.  But, what better way to relax, than time outdoors in the crisp, fall air?  Take a break from raking leaves and cleaning the gutters for a visit to one of NoVA’s local treasures- Great Falls Park.

Five miles west of I-495 and a quick, 30 minute drive from Fairfax, Virginia, Great Falls Park is a place sure to entertain leaf peepers of all ages.  The park features jaw-dropping views of the Potomac River as well as ample picnic areas and miles of trails for walking or running.  For more adventurous visitors, the park’s Mather Gorge is perfect for local kayaking and rock climbing.  Best of all? Four-legged friends are welcome, too!
