A Closer Look at Lake Braddock VA Sports
Football
Like many Virginia schools, football seems to be the Bruin’s most prized sport. And the school has done themselves proud. They won district championships in 1992, 1995, 1996, 2001, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The team has continued on to the Virginia State playoffs as regional champions in 1995, 2001, 2009, and 2010, and even went to the state finals in 2009. Of course, football is one of the Lake Braddock VA Sports that is popular for more than just the athletes.
Cross Country
But while football gets a lot of attention, it is actually the Lake Braddock Secondary School cross country teams that are the winningest. The Bruin men’s and women’s cross country teams have won more championship titles than any other Lake Braddock sport. The school has won ten women’s state championships and three men’s state championships.
Both the men’s and the women’s teams won the state title in 1987. The women’s team won the state title in 2009, the same year the men’s team received 4th place in the state. In 2010, the men’s team took back-to-back Patriot District championships and the women won the Northern Region championship. In 2012, the women’s team won the District and Regional championships. Both teams also competed in the Virginia State championships in 2012.
Soccer
The High School also has an exceptionally strong soccer program. In 1987 the women’s varsity soccer team became the first soccer team in Virginia to go undefeated and win the State Title with a 20-0 record. They are also the only team in Virginia to win two back-to-back AAA state championships, in 2006 and 2007. The men’s soccer team won the state championship several times in the 1980s and in 1995.
Baseball
The Lake Braddock baseball program has its fair share of accolades as well. The team has won 13 district championships and eight regional championships. 2012 was an exceptionally exciting year for Bruins baseball. The Lake Braddock Varsity baseball team won both the Patriot District title and the Virginia State Championship. This was the first state championship and best season record (26–3) in school history. A few years later, in 2019, matched that 26-3 record — a school best — to win both the regional title and the state title. This was the first state championship since 2012, and only 2nd baseball championship in school history.
Tennis
Bruins tennis teams are also contenders. The men’s team holds the Patriot District titles from 2008 to 2013, and continued that streak in 2014, though the name was changed to the Patriot Conference. In 2014, the team won the 6A Region tournament, the first men’s tennis regional title for the school, and made it to state in 2010 and 2014. The team had state appearances in 2010 and 2014, winning the State tournament in 2014 over Langley High School, which was the first men’s tennis state title ever for Lake Braddock.
To accompany these feats of prowess, the Bruins have an active booster’s association with a commitment to student-athletes and athletics facilities. Always there to cheer them on, it appears cheers are loudest when Lake Braddock Secondary Sports plays its arch-rival, James W. Robinson Jr. Secondary School in Fairfax, Virginia.
There are many Lake Braddock VA Sports for those in high school and others for those not in high school. When you’re planning to move to the area, you can find plenty of Lake Braddock VA Sports to participate in or for the students in your family.
