Fall Fix: Halloween Fun for All in Northern Virginia

All Hallows’ Eve is almost upon us and Northern Virginia has a great line-up of spooky and haunting activities for all.  Join in on the family-friendly fun all weekend in locales across the region.

For Dog Owners:
October 30: From 1:00-6:00 PM, primp your pooch for tricks and doggie treats in Old Town Alexandria.  The howl-oween merriment starts at the Dog Park on King Street where dogs and their people can pick-up area maps and have their photo taken.  Participating stores will offer sales sure to get even your tail wagging!  Is your dog a ribbon winning pooch?  Put your costumed pup to the test at Jackson 20 restaurant where there will be a Doggie Yappy Hour Costume Competition. Numerous prizes will be awarded and proceeds from the event will benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

For Wine Lovers:

For Wine Lovers:
October 29-30.  Virginia might not have the notoriety of the Napa Valley, but we know wine!  As of 2013, the state had a whopping 230 wineries.  This year, Halloween festivities are creeping and crawling to some of Fauquier County’s wineries.  Visit Three Fox Vineyards and Miracle Valley Vineyard in Delaplane for spook-tacular events including Halloween candy and wine pairing, hot mulled wine tasting, live music, and costume competitions.  For more details about these monstrously eerie events, visit the wineries’ websites.

Trick-or-Treaters

For Trick-or-Treaters
October 31
. Old Town Alexandria is the place to be for kid-friendly fun.  Children (and their parents) are invited to visit participating businesses in the Old Town Boutique District between 2:00-6:00 PM for special treats.  Costumes are encouraged!  The event is free to all.  Participating “boo-tiques” will display distinguishing posters in their front windows.  Not sure where to start your trick-or-treating?  View last year’s map of participating businesses.

Night Owls and Families

For Night Owls and Families:
October 28-29.  Visit Great Country Farms in Bluemont to see the night aglow with the spine-chilling flicker of candle light behind the gaping smiles of more than 2,000 carved jack-o-lanterns.  The event will be held from 6:00-9:00 PM and will include judging and prizes for the best jack-o-lanterns.  Adding to the seasonal magic, marshmallows will be available for roasting over a bonfire.  What better way to celebrate the fall harvest season?
