Community Events To Consider This Week
Reading Events
Barnes and Noble (Loisdale Center, 6646 Loisdale Rd., Springfield) is hosting a reading Fun Days event at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 15th. As every Monday, participants are encouraged to celebrate their favorite characters (in theme).
The Scholastic Book Fair is back! The Washington International Academy hosts its book fair exclusively online this year, though the plan is still to make it a fun and joyous experience for area kids. The fully Virtual Fair allows readers to experience the magic of the school shopping experience. Browse over 200 titles by grade, meet popular authors, and discover the comfort and joy of the Fair with direct access to over 6,000 additional titles with family-friendly prices, at the Scholastic online store. Online Treasure Hunt
Dietrich’s Karate presents Karate Kai, a state of the art Online Quest! Throughout the journey your KARATEKA will learn a language, KARATE moves, Kid’s fitness, and more while journeying through an online treasure hunt, with clues hidden with the ancient videos where they must unlock the mystery on their quest to locate the first of the hidden Dragon Belts! Dietrich’s needs your help to make your DOJO the champions in the battle for knowledge. On Monday, February 15th, starting at 7 am, Karate Kai Season One begins with Japanese Karate, Language, and NINJA Fitness challenges in Episode One: Quest for the White Dragon Belt.
Family Movie Night
Join UNO Pizzeria & Grill (5935 Kingstowne Center, Alexandria) for a socially distanced movie night on Tuesday, February 16th at 6 pm. The popular pizza and pasta spot is serving up your UNO favorites and another Pixar classic, The Incredibles! This event is first come first serve, so set your alarms and get the family together for dinner. Space is limited and all COVID safety procedures will be enforced.
Trivia Night
Sydenstricker United Methodist Church youth invite you to join in for a virtual Trivia Night on Tuesday, February 16, at 7:30 p.m. Sign up here to receive the Zoom link to play.
Open Mic Night
Every third Wednesday of the month is Open Mic Comedy Night at The Crossroads (13891 Metrotech Dr., Chantilly) presented by Stand Up & Drink. Join in for laughs and good times on Wednesday, February 17th from 6:30pm-9:30pm.
Run Club
Join Potomac River Running Burke (5715 Burke Centre Pkwy) on Thursday night, February 18th at 6:30pm for a 5k-10k fun run around Burke! These out & back routes are great for all levels of runners, so all levels are welcome.
Naturalist Discovery
(Adults Only) Join park naturalists for a Wetland at Dusk relaxing stroll through Huntley Meadows Park’s forest and wetland paths (7315 Ox Rd, Alexandria) on Saturday, February 20th. Look and listen for wildlife settling down or waking up during the transition of day to night. The program runs from 5:15 to 7:15 pm at a cost of $9 per person.
