There’s always so much happening with our community events! Check out these fun events taking place in the Springfield and Burke areas during the week of February 8-14, 2021.
Best Community Events for The Upcoming Week
Valentine Kids Party
Dietrich’s Karate in Burke is hosting a Valentine’s Kid’s Party / Parent’s Night Out on February 12th that includes three full hours of FREE fun and games from 6 pm – 9 pm.
Dietrich’s knows the kids need to PARTY… and this Valentine’s party seems to incorporate a month of themes. Take note: Everything is GREEN! Kids are encouraged to wear their favorite green clothes, dress up as a Leprechaun, and let loose!
Cooking Class
Grab some friends and join Chef Shanel Terae for a Valentine’s Day Weekend virtual brunch cooking experience on February 13, from noon to 1:30 pm. The brunch menu includes Chef Shanel’s Shrimp & Grits, Peach Cobbler Pancakes, and Mimosa Margaritas.
Attendees will receive a list of tools and ingredients prior to class so they can determine what they will need to purchase. Tickets available here, $35.
Home Tour
Frock up in vintage on February 13 from 7 – 8:30 pm for a vintage Valentine’s Day tour through Carrick Hill (46 Carrick Hill Dr., Springfield, VA 5062) where Dr. Georgina Downey, as tour director, will celebrate the reopening of the home with a focus on it’s owner, Ursula Hayward’s taste and style in interiors and art. She will focus on the Hayward’s dual identities as both British and Australian.
Inspired by Hayward’s black Dior cocktail dress, c. 1950, guests will don a vintage clothing item from any decade from the 1940s to the 1970s; with a surprise gift at the end for the best-dressed! Tickets available here, $48.
American Legion Libations
Valentine’s morning at American Legion Post 176 (6520 Amherst Ave., Springfield, VA 22150) from 11 am – 1 pm, members and volunteers will gather to raise a glass for Bloody Mary Sunday. There is no entrance fee, but there will be a charge of $3 per glass. Those over 21 are welcome — invite your friends for socially distanced drinks.
Blood Drive
Nothing says “love” like the gift of blood. Here’s your chance to show how much you care. Consider donating the gift of life at Inova’s Annual Valentine’s Blood Drive, an event organized by Friends of Sadie’s Annual Blood Drive.
Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 9 am – 3 pm, you can participate in this annual Valentine Blood Drive at the Woods Community Center (10100 Wards Grove Circle) by donating a true gift from the heart. Blood donations are essential, and every donation has the potential to save multiple lives. Be the Life Saver your community needs!
Race
Looking to spend a special day with your significant other or possibly want to meet someone? The 2021 Lovers 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, February 14 from 1 – 4 pm. Come out and enjoy these scenic 5k/10k/Half courses through the trails of Burke Lake Park while spending time with the one you love. Course Maps can be found here.
The 2021 Lovers races are being held in partnership with the Organization for Autism Research with an exciting twist —This will be a stoplight-style event! Wear something red if you’re taken, green if you’re single, and yellow if… it’s complicated.
Runners will receive a Finisher’s Coin, and a Technical (Drifit) Event Shirt. This is a chip-timed event. There is also a virtual run option for those who cannot make it on race day. Those runners will receive a custom medal.
Walkers and strollers are also welcome to attend this event.
There will be race day registration, but participants will need to arrive around 45 minutes before the race to get registered for the event. (T-shirts sizes can not be guaranteed for race day registers.)
While the Governor’s Order states that race waves can still be up to 25, these races will have waves closer to 10. Participants are encourage to bring their own water. Masks are expected during check-in, but are not expected during the actual race.
