Fairfax Ice Arena (3779 Pickett Road, Fairfax)

This first indoor ice rink facility in the DC area hosts public skating sessions, hockey, figure skating, lessons, and classes. And while it’s great to visit when the winter weather comes around, keep in mind that the Fairfax Ice Arena is actually open for fun year-round!  This is one of the best spots for ice skating near Springfield and Burke in Virginia.

Mount Vernon Ice Arena (2017 Belle View Boulevard, Alexandria)

The Mount Vernon RECenter Ice Arena is Fairfax Aunty’s only publicly-owned indoor ice arena. Also designed for year-round use, Mount Vernon is popular especially for its warming room and skate sharpening services. Daily public skating sessions are available at this official NHL-size rink.

The St. James (6805 Industrial Rd., Springfield)

Two NHL-regulation rinks up the ante at the St. James Wellness and Entertainment Complex. These “serene sheets of ice” infrequently open up for family free skates when not in use for planned sporting lessons, matches, or exhibitions. 

Reston Town Center Ice Skating Pavilion (1818 Discovery St., Reston)

Reston Town Center offers daily public skating through mid-March at its covered, but open-air, facility. If you’re looking for an idea for a safe celebration, or just looking for extra security, this venue even offers small group private rentals.

SkateQuest Ice Rink (1800 Michael Faraday Ct., Reston)

SkateQuest is a twin-sheet indoor ice skating center in Reston that has both an NHL-sized and an Olympic-sized rink that is open year-round. Recreational skaters will enjoy a few hours of SkateQuest’s public skating availability each afternoon on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. There are even discount Lunch Skate Rates available! 

Pentagon Row Outdoor Ice Skating (1201 South Joyce St., Arlington)

Whether you’re skating on your own or joining the kids, the Pentagon Row Outdoor rink is a favorite for its dual-sided stone fireplace. Perfect for warming up on skate breaks! After some recent renovations, Pentagon Row’s outdoor rink now claims to be the largest outdoor ice rink in NoVa — and the 2nd largest in the state.  

Rockville Town Square Ice Skating (131 Gibbs St., Rockville, MD)

Experience your ice-capades and fresh air fun in the heart of Rockville. With its ice-cold fun for the family, the Rockville Town Square Ice Rink is usually open through late March. It might not be quite as close as other spots for ice skating near Springfield and Burke, but it’s still close enough to enjoy.

Silver Spring Ice Skating Rink (8523 Fenton St., Silver Spring, MD)

Silver Spring’s rink skating tickets are great for getting just the perfect taste of winter fun in its large, open-air facility. But these single-hour reservations take place every afternoon of the week, so there’s always a time to get in on the action.
