She’s been called a “superhero” and a “rockstar”… especially in this agitated market. And it’s true that COVID has really showcased Sharon Mills’ competence and creativity! But it all started because she was serious about investing — and she’s just as serious about helping you to invest or divest from one of the biggest purchases of your life as well.
Sharon Mills: A Closer Look
“About 17 years ago, my husband and I wanted to consider owning investment property. We bought a couple of homes and rented them. At that point I thought it would be good idea to have my license to get the ‘inside’ scoop and watch first-hand in case we wanted another investment opportunity in the future,” Mills explained of how she got her start. “I never intended to go into real estate as an agent, but at the urging of some very close friends I gave it a try and have never looked back.”
We’re so glad she did! Because now she is one of the best in the business, known for passing along that insider expertise to her clients and “[making] a very intimidating process seem simple!” according to clients.
Licensed as an Associate Broker in VA, MD, and DC, Mills is divided about whether it’s the real estate or the relationships that are the best part of her career.
“I learned how much I really love people and learning about their lives and experiences,” she said. “I think people are so interesting. I always tell my clients, ‘I don’t care if we look at 100 homes for 5 years and you decide not to purchase anything or sell your home. You just have to be happy. I need to be able to put my head on the pillow at night and fall asleep knowing you did what was best for you.’”
This is likely why online reviewers have said: “She will be the first one I call if/when I ever sell a home again.”
With her four decades living in the NoVa and DC areas, and 15 years dedicated to real estate, Mills is well-suited to guide buyers and sellers through the nuances of the local market. And if her solid 5-star reviews aren’t enough, she’s even in the RE/MAX Hall of Fame for lifetime commissions earned!
And still, during a pandemic, Mills is a top choice, who handles clients concerns with thoughtfulness and tact.
“[She was] fantastic about coordinating everything from a distance,” said one buyer.
“Due to the virus, the buyers and sellers in this market are very serious, otherwise sellers would not choose to have strangers in their homes, nor would buyers want to go into stranger’s homes,” admitted Mills. “Both are doing a great job managing through it.”
“On a much lighter note, it has made for a fun experience as we all try to communicate and look at each other with masks on!” As serious as the situation is, Mills finds some comic relief in the new real estate routine.
And she predicts relief ahead for buyers as we progress into 2021 as well.
“In my opinion, the market will be good for sellers in early 2021,” Mills forecasted. “In fact, the sooner the better for sellers in 2021. As the year progresses, sellers may lose some of the financial benefits with bidding wars that they have currently enjoyed due to limited inventory for the buyers.”
“As we, hopefully, open back up again and things get back to some sense of normalcy, there should be more homes coming on the market as sellers feel more comfortable opening up their doors. This means more competition between sellers and some leverage for the buyers which they have not had. The buyers have had a difficult time winning contracts without waiving contingencies and paying over the list price. At some point we may see the market even out and become fair to both sides. Wouldn’t that be unbelievable?”
Well… 2020 has been pretty unbelievable in itself! But working with Sharon Mills has definitely been one of List With Elizabeth’s highlights. We hope you’ll have the chance to also meet and work with Sharon Mills soon!
When not with clients, you can likely find Sharon with her husband, three children, and her yellow lab enjoying her favorite room in her own home — the sunroom — where she is currently reveling in the holiday spirit with a decorated Christmas tree and serene views of the common area of her neighborhood.
