The TSA Headquarters in Springfield, VA
According to an article from the Mount Vernon Gazette, the TSA moved into the nine-story, 625K square foot building in Springfield in February of 2021. This location is just a few hundred yards from the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station, which makes it easy for workers to access.
This relocation was actually a combination of the five different TSA locations that were located throughout the metro area. It’s expected to have a lasting impact on the economy throughout the Springfield area.
When the TSA moved into the building, about 1,000 employees are working within the building. This number ramped up to 1,250 within a few weeks and when it’s completely filled, there will be 3,100 employees at the new TSA headquarters in Springfield, VA.
The facility includes a six-level parking garage, along with a shuttle for federal employees and a walkway for others. It’s also home to Mission Hall, which is a permanent exhibition showing the history of the TSA.
Top Places to Live Near the TSA Headquarters
1. Springfield
Of course, Springfield is one of the best places to live if you work at the TSA headquarters. It’s a smaller community with a little over 31,000 residents. This suburb offers plenty of housing options including single-family homes, condominiums, and townhomes. No matter the type of home you’re looking for, you can find it in Springfield.
Springfield is filled with many different types of neighborhoods. You can choose a luxury home in a gated community or a more modest home in a well-manicured community. There are several unique architectural styles found throughout, as well.
2. West Springfield
Another great community to call home near the TSA headquarters is West Springfield. This community is very family-centric. The Northern Virginia location makes it easy to access all kinds of fun things nearby. It’s actually known as a popular place for government workers to call home.

If you’re looking for a unique community with townhomes and single-family homes, Lake Braddock might be the perfect option. It’s a bit further from the TSA headquarters in Springfield, but it’s still close enough for a pretty easy commute.
This community is very close to shopping options, schools, dining, entertainment options, and plenty of parks. It has quite a few amenities for residents to enjoy with even two swimming pools.
5. Orange Hunt Estates
A very well-established community found just outside of West Springfield, Orange Hunt Estates is a popular choice for TSA workers. This community was built throughout the 1970s and offers both older residents and younger families throughout.
The location provides plenty of things to do, places to shop, and schools nearby. It’s a very popular option for military families and certainly close enough for those working at the TSA headquarters in Springfield.
