About the Springfield Mall in Virginia (a.k.a. Springfield Town Center)
An enclosed shopping center in Fairfax County, Virginia, the town center was originally known as the Springfield Mall. It opened in 1973 as an enclosed shopping mall but later closed in 2012.
When it was still the Springfield Mall, it was anchored by Lansburgh’s, J.C. Penney, Garfinkel’s, and Montgomery Ward. Macy’s was added later in 1991. Prince Charles and Princess Diana actually visited the JCPenney in 1985 when they came on their very famous American tour.
The mall was later redeveloped and turned into a Town Center. It is now a shopping center focusing on the main indoor areas and it’s very similar to other nearby shopping centers, such as the Dulles Town Center and Tysons Corner Center.
The exterior was transformed into a pedestrian-friendly environment with cafe-style seating, restaurants, and plenty more. The Springfield Town Center is found off Franconia Road and Interstate 95. It features many different shops, restaurants, and things to do throughout.
