Family-Friendly

Relocating to Springfield is a great place for families, the neighborhoods are filled with mostly single-family homes, though townhouse living is becoming more popular. Its large number of schools, and suburban location make it an attractive option for young families, especially those moving from more urban areas nearby. 

Living in Springfield offers residents an urban suburban mix feel. The majority of residents own their homes, though there are plenty that rent as well. It is possible here to be near the city yet take advantage of a lot of restaurants and parks. Springfield is also very dog friendly and has plenty of pet-loving restaurants, services, and ample play areas.

Crime 

Springfield’s crime rate is average for cities of its size and proximity to major metropolitan areas. Most reported crimes here relate to theft of property, with violent crimes being much rarer. Residents generally feel safe and protected. 

Weather

Virginia generally has a humid, sub-tropical climate in which residents enjoy the full range of seasons: pleasant, hot summers and crisp winters with moderate rainfall throughout the year. While summer temperatures can reach over 100 degrees, in winter there is usually snow, though the average accumulation is modest. It is partly cloudy — and thus partly sunny — throughout the state year-round.

Springfield residents take advantage of the state’s range of weather to enjoy ample outdoor activities, scenic drives, plenty of foliage, and farmer’s markets and festivals.

Public Transportation and Commute

Not only does Springfield enjoy great roads and a variety of regional and local bus and transit services, but the Metro does have stops here on its Metrorail Yellow and Blue Lines.

Furthermore, even drivers commuting to work in Washington, DC love living in Springfield, because it is one of the best locations for commuters to live, with quick access to major highways and main interchanges. The average Springfield commuter can feasibly make it work in the DC area in less than half an hour, depending on traffic flow.

Cost of Housing

Springfield’s housing market is highly competitive, and in 2021, prices are up relative to past years. Many are relocating to Springfield due to the cost of housing. The median home value prior to COVID was $468,100, but home prices are steadily rises due to this neighborhood’s desirability and the lack of inventory on the market. Restaurants, groceries, gas and entertainment here may cost a bit more than some cities elsewhere, but the convenience and perks outweigh the slightly elevated pricing for most residents.
